It all started when…

Fish for Life came from a desire to highlight those fishers that we love to work with at Codfathers Seafood Market; the suppliers who are the very best of the best. It all began as an Instagram account to tell stories of sustainable fisheries and harvesters, but after we began to pivot to home delivery after the first lockdown of the Covid-19 pandemic, we decided we wanted to make it simpler for home cooks to enjoy ethical seasonal seafood at home.

At Codfathers Seafood Market, we are a retail store, and we supply wholesale to many restaurants across the Okanagan, so we have a great variety of products and lots of suppliers. Fish for Life is a way for us to highlight local seafood and make it easier for everyone to enjoy how wonderful our seafood can be. By delivering to pick-up spots across the Okanagan and Similkameen, you should never be too far away from sustainable wild seafood, harvested responsibly for you to enjoy as part of a healthy, balanced diet.

We are part of the Slow Fish movement, which is all about supporting responsible fishing and can be boiled down to these three principles: good, clean, and fair.

  • Good means fresh, delicious, and seasonal.

  • Clean means making sure that seafood is produced using methods that respect the environment and human health.

  • And fair is all about accessible prices for consumers, but also fair earnings for small-scale producers and workers.

Slow Fish says it best: “Eating in “slow” style and choosing good, clean and fair fish, we can all allow ourselves to enjoy the pleasures of the table and at the same time push the market towards a responsible management of seafood resources.”
